The “Wear it California” campaign will begin Memorial Day and end on Labor Day. The objective of the campaign is to encourage boaters to wear life jackets. Wearing one is simple and can save your life.

Take the following into consideration:

It takes…

  • 10 minutes to refuel
  • 5 minutes to run the blowers
  • 2 minutes to check the oil
  • 3 minutes to check the bilges
  • 5 minutes to look at the forecast
  • 2 minutes to stow the fenders
  • 1 minute to coil the lines

It only takes 10 seconds to put on your life jacket--seconds that can save your life.
Haven’t convinced you to wear one? Is it because they’re too bulky? Do they produce unwanted tan lines? Better yet, they don’t allow you to get a tan?
Well, the Wear It! campaign has news for you. We have life jackets that will meet your needs. Introducing the sospender and belt type.

The campaign will be distributing these life jackets during the summer on the Delta for free (while supplies last). All you have to do is find the “Wear It California!” Campaign Boat that will be cruising the Delta all summer long.

Boaters, who agree to sign a pledge card, will receive a life jacket. Participants will be required to give permission to the Department of Boating and Waterways to contact them in the future about their experiences with this life jacket.

Pledge cards will state that boaters believe life jackets save lives.
Drowning fatalities related to boating accidents would be dramatically reduced if more boaters wore life jackets. Boaters can obtain the pledge card online, print it and give it to the crew of the “Wear It California!” Campaign Boat or you may just approach it on the Delta. The boat crew will be carrying pledge cards.

In addition to this, boaters are welcomed to participate in the on-line contest to win an on-the-water prize of “titanic” proportions (details to be announced). All you have to do is answer a couple of questions to be entered into the drawing.

Remember, Wear It! Wearing a life jacket may make you a winner, but most importantly it may save your life, and that’s priceless!
